9th and Final Inning

-->

Fresno State is the 2008 NCAA Division I Baseball National Champion!!!!

Fresno State had a chance to add an insurance run in the top of the 9th inning when they had a runner on third base with less than two outs but weren’t able to push a 7th run home.

Georgia, heading into the bottom of the 9th inning, needed 5 runs to tie and 6 runs to win a title but fell short in doing so. Georgia put the first two men on base and then strandedĀ them there. Georgia stranded 10 runners all night. The final score:

Fresno State 6

Georgia 1

Fresno State wins the best of three series 2 games to 1.

Fresno State’s Tommy Mendonca (3B) was named the CWS’ Most Outstanding Player as he went 3-13 with 2 home runs and 4 RBIs.

Fresno State has completed one of the most magical runs in sports history with their first-ever National Championship in baseball. They become only the second team to lose the first game of the best of three series and win the title. Oregon State did it in 2006, their first of two straight titles (2006, 2007).

Congratulations to theĀ Fresno State Bulldogs!
